The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) claimed today that it has not given any orders to slow down or shut down mobile networks in the districts of Khagrachhari and Rangamati.
According to a media statement from the telecom authority, power outages and the cutting of optical fiber caused internet and mobile network service disruptions in some districts.
According to BTRC, fighting between rival groups occurred on Thursday in the Khagrachari district’s Dighinala. During that time, 16 network towers owned by mobile operator Robi were rendered inoperable, and the optical fiber of NTTN operators, Summit Communications Limited and Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL), was damaged as a result of an arson attack.
BTRC said, it was not possible to repair all the towers immediately amid the prevailing situation, BTRC said.
About 150 network towers are owned by Robi in the district, and as of Friday, the operator has successfully brought 14 of those towers back online. It stated that all towers should shortly be in service.
According to BTRC, of the 72 Teletalk towers in the Khagrachari district, 29 are currently out of commission, 23 of which are due to power outages and six of which are for other reasons.
According to BTRC, throughout Friday’s conflict, broadband internet services were available in the districts of Khagrachhari and Rangamati.
However, a small percentage of users are having issues in certain places as a result of cable damage and power outages.
The press release said ISP operators are working hard for restoring internet service through generators.
BTRC regretted and apologized for the temporary inconvenience of the internet subscribers in the backdrop of the prevailing situation.
