Dhaka University bans politics for teachers, students

The administration of Dhaka University has made the decision to forbid any political activity on campus by staff members, instructors, or students.

The decision was made on Thursday during a meeting of the university syndicate’s top policy-making body.

Until new guidance is received, the decision will stay in effect.

The syndicate met in emergency session on Thursday night.

Speaking with Prothom Alo, two syndicate members declared that political activity of any kind by university staff, instructors, or students would continue to be prohibited until further notice.

Previously, during one phase of the quota reform movement, students called for an outright ban on political party affiliation on campus.

Meanwhile, a gang of students have been charged with beating a man to death while holding him in the guest room of Dhaka University’s Fazlul Huq Muslim Hall on the grounds that he was a thief.

The victim of an assault that lasted for several hours on Wednesday night passed away. He was pronounced dead by the on-call doctor last night when a group of students brought him to the hospital at around 12:00 am.
