Australia’s Ponting named Punjab Kings head coach

On Wednesday, Punjab Kings signed former Australian captain Ricky Ponting as their head coach for four seasons of the lucrative Indian Premier League.

Two months after Ponting left Delhi Capitals after seven years, the announcement was made.

“We are delighted to have Ricky on to guide and build our team for the next four seasons,” Punjab Kings CEO Satish Menon stated.

“His ability to develop cricketing and leadership skills will play a crucial role in our success.”

Kings, who placed ninth this season and have yet to win a trophy, will hire Ponting, 49, as their third head coach in four seasons.

Since finishing runners-up in 2014, they have not qualified for the IPL playoffs.

Ponting was eager to tackle the new task.

“We all want to repay the fans who have stayed with the franchise over the years, and we promise that they will see a much different Punjab Kings going forward” , stated.

Ponting led the Washington Freedom to the Major League Cricket title this year.

Since 2021, he has been Hobart Hurricanes’ Big Bash League strategic head.

Ponting played 168 Tests and scored 13,378 runs. From 375 ODIs, he scored 13,704 runs.
