Gaza rescuers say 11 from one family killed in Israeli strike

11 members of a single family, including women and children, were murdered when an Israeli airstrike struck a residence in Gaza City on Saturday morning, according to the civil defense agency in Gaza.

“We have recovered the bodies of 11 martyrs, including four children and  three women, after an Israeli air strike hit the house of the Bustan family  in eastern Gaza City,” agency spokesman Mahmud Bassal told AFP.

The strike took place near the Shujaiya school in the Al-Tuffah neighbourhood of Gaza City, he said.

“Rescuers are continuing to search for the missing,” Bassal said.

The Israeli military had no immediate comment on the strike.

Bassal said that throughout the course of the night, Israeli forces carried out identical strikes in other locations around the Hamas-controlled zone, killing at least ten people.

He said that an airstrike near the Dar Al-Arqam school resulted in the deaths of five people in northwest Gaza City.

According to Bassal, tens of thousands of Palestinians who have been forced to flee their homes have taken up residence in the Al-Mawasi district in the southern Khan Yunis governorate, where three more individuals have died in an attack.

Following Hamas’ October 7 onslaught on southern Israel, which claimed 1,205 lives, primarily of civilians, according to an AFP count based on official Israeli data, the Gaza War broke out.

During the attack, militants also took 251 hostages, 97 of whom are being detained in Gaza, 33 of whom the Israeli military claims to be dead. Hostages who have died in captivity are counted.

According to the health ministry of the Hamas-run enclave, Israel’s retaliatory military operation has killed at least 41,118 individuals in Gaza so far. The ministry does not disclose information about deaths among civilians or militants. According to the UN human rights office, women and children make up the majority of the deceased.
