Switzerland assures cooperation in repatriating illegal assets of Bangladeshi nationals

Switzerland has promised to work with Bangladeshi nationals to repatriate illicit funds they have placed in Swiss banks, following international protocols and norms.

According to a press release released by the ministry today, the commitment was made during a meeting between Foreign Adviser Md. Touhid Hossein and Swiss Ambassador in Dhaka, Reto Siegfried Renggli.

During the conversation, Foreign Advisor Hossain asked for the assistance of Swiss authorities in locating and reclaiming illicit assets that some Bangladeshi citizens had deposited in Swiss banks.

Regarding trade and investment, the envoy called Bangladesh a highly promising market and emphasized the need for more private sector involvement and level playing fields in order to draw in more Swiss capital.

Referring to the immense capability of the Bangladeshi youth especially in ICT, the foreign adviser requested Swiss support in leveraging their full potential for productivity and economic growth through generating entrepreneurship and employment.

The ambassador shared eagerness of the Swiss side in this regard.

After talking about the Rohingya issue, both sides came to the conclusion that the only way to resolve the situation is to return the displaced people to their native Myanmar with safety, security, and their rights intact.

More humanitarian aid to the Rohingyas and the host community in Cox’s Bazar was promised by the Swiss Ambassador.

Additionally, the foreign adviser received the original congratulations from the Swiss Federal Councilor from the Swiss envoy.
