‘Shogun’ set to reign at historic Emmys

“Shogun” is tipped to become the first ever non-English-language winner of the Emmy for best drama — the most prestigious prize at the small-screen equivalent of the Oscars — at a glitzy ceremony on Sunday.

At the gala in downtown Los Angeles, the epic series about fighting dynasties in the complex and deadly royal courts of 17th-century Japan is anticipated to create history with victories for its cast, which includes seasoned leading man Hiroyuki Sanada.

“Shogun” hit the ground running at the Creative Arts Emmys this past weekend, notching a record-breaking 14 wins in technical and smaller categories, which are handed out ahead of the gala.

The Bear, a dark comedy rooted in the Chicago food scene that is back for an experimental second season, and Netflix’s contentious limited series “Baby Reindeer” could be among Sunday’s other big winners.

The ceremony will be hosted by father-and-son actors Eugene and Daniel Levy, starting at 5:00 p.m. (0400 GMT Monday).
