Former DMP chief Asaduzzaman Mia on seven-day remand

In connection with a case involving the murder of Nuruzzaman Jony, the former general secretary of the Khilgaon Thana unit of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, a court here today placed Asaduzzaman Mia, the former commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), on seven days of remand.

The ruling was issued by Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saiful Islam while the police presented Asaduzzaman Mia to the court and asked that he be placed on 10-day remand in the case.

On September 11, the Rapid Action Battalion took him into custody in the Mohakhali neighborhood of the capital, as Lt Colonel Muneem Ferdous, Director of the RAB Legal and Media Wing, revealed to BSS.

On September 19, 2015, Jony was taken into custody by the detective branch (DB) of the police, and the following day, he was slain in an incident dubbed “crossfire.” On September 3, 2024, his father filed a complaint against 62 individuals, including former MP Saber Hossain Chowdhury, with the Khilgaon Police Station.
