A UN delegation, led by Rory Mungoven, head of the Asia-Pacific Division of the United Nations Human Rights Organization, today held a meeting with Advisor for Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, Syeda Rizwana Hasan at her Secretariat office here.
They discussed issues related to crimes and human rights violations committed during the anti-discrimination student movement in Bangladesh, a ministry press release said.
They focused on potential areas of collaboration between the United Nations and the interim government of Bangladesh to ensuring the protection of human rights.
Rizwana Hasan highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts in environmental conservation and protection of human rights.
She highlighted the government’s commitment to protecting human rights in Bangladesh.Rory Mungoven commended Bangladesh’s initiatives and reiterated the United Nations’ support in advancing human rights agendas in the region.
He stressed the need for continued dialogue and partnership to strengthen the capacity of institutions in addressing these challenges.
They expressed a strong interest in working closely together to uphold human rights in Bangladesh.
Livia Cosenza, Human Rights Officer, Asia Pacific Section; Alexander James Amir El Jundi, Human Rights Officer, OHCHR; Huma Khan and Senior Human Rights Adviser of UN Resident Coordinator’s Office in Bangladesh, were also present on the occasion.
