At least four persons were killed as Russia launched a barrage of attack drones and missiles at Ukraine on Tuesday, according to authorities, following a second night of intense bombardment throughout the war-torn country.
Soon after the bombardment began, Ukraine announced that it had made significant progress in its surprise attack on the Kursk border region of Russia and that it had captured almost 600 Russian soldiers in the previous three weeks.
“Crimes against humanity cannot be committed with impunity,” President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a post on social media, reporting on Tuesday four killed and 16 wounded.
AFP reporters in the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, heard explosions that were probably caused by air defense systems during the night, along with the sound of air raid sirens echoing over the city.
With Monday’s attack ranking among Moscow’s biggest against Ukraine to far, Kyiv is pressing for approval from allies to deploy Western-supplied weaponry to launch a deep-strike inside Russia.
