Bangladesh hosts 60 out of the top 100 LEED-certified factories across the globe

Today, 60 of the top 100 LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified factories worldwide are located in Bangladesh, demonstrating the country’s dedication to sustainability and green manufacturing.

The United States Green Building Council (USGBC) has certified two additional garment factories in Bangladesh, bringing the total number of green factories in the nation to 226, according to the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).

These factories are Executive Greentex Ltd in Sreepur, Gazipur, and Saadatia Sweaters Ltd in Ashulia, Dhaka.

Saadatia Sweaters earned Platinum certification with a score of 91, while Executive Greentex earned Gold certification with a score of 69.

With these developments, Bangladesh now has 226 LEED-accredited factories, comprising 89 Platinum and 123 Gold certified firms.

Since 2001, Bangladesh has been the recipient of the certificate.

The council gives factories awards based on a number of factors, including waste management, energy, water, and transformation performance. Platinum is awarded to the top performers, with gold and silver following.

“We have consistently prioritised sustainability in our operations, ensuring that our growth is aligned with global best practices and environmental stewardship”, said Mohiuddin Rubel, a director at BGMEA.

According to him, Bangladesh has made progress toward reaching net zero in terms of green growth.

He continued by saying that cooperative efforts from customers, the government, and development organizations have also contributed to this progress in addition to industry initiatives.

According to Rubel, “This support has been crucial in driving the industry forward, helping us maintain our competitive edge while setting new benchmarks in sustainability.”

“We are confident that, with continued partnership and dedication, the Bangladesh RMG industry will reach new heights of excellence, further solidifying its place as a global leader in sustainable and ethical manufacturing,” he added.

Mohiuddin Rubel said, “We look forward to building on this momentum and continuing our journey towards creating a more sustainable and environmentally responsible industry.”
