Thursday marked the start of Taylor Swift’s first of five sold-out performances in London. A week earlier, concerts in Vienna were postponed owing to a failed suicide attack plot.
The record-breaking “Eras” tour of the American artist comes to a finale with her return to Wembley Stadium, where she performed three nights in June.
The concert coincides with events in Vienna and was held a little more than two weeks after three girls in northwest England died in a mass stabbing at a dance lesson centered around her music.
The 34-year-old appeared on the Wembley stage for her hit song ‘22’ wearing a T-shirt bearing the words “a lot going on at the moment” — a fashion statement interpreted as a reference to both incidents.
Three people who are believed to be supporters of the Islamic State group have been arrested in Austria on suspicion of planning to assault the Swift concerts with explosives and knives.Swift’s concerts in front of 90,000 fans in the UK capital had “nothing to indicate” any connection to the events in Vienna, according to London police.
But it was working “closely with venue security teams and other partners to ensure there are appropriate security and policing plans in place”.
