Saber Hossain Chowdhury, the minister of environment, forests, and climate change, announced today that Bangladesh and the Maldives will collaborate on climate diplomacy.
During the South Asia Cooperative Environment Programme (SACEP) conference in Thimphu, Bhutan, he met with Thoriq Ibrahim, the Maldives’ Minister for Environment, Climate Change, and Technology, and said this.
According to a message received today, the Bangladeshi minister suggested during the conference implementing cooperative ecotourism programs combining the beaches of Bangladesh and the islands of the Maldives.
Furthermore, he emphasized the necessity of guaranteeing the welfare of Bangladeshi laborers employed in the Maldives and increasing job prospects for them.
Thoriq Ibrahim, the Minister of the Maldives, asked Bangladesh for help in setting up nurseries and bringing in fruit, forest, and medicinal tree saplings.
He said that Bangladeshis might now reenter the Maldives labor market, which had been closed for a long period. This is expected to increase the number of Bangladeshi workers in the country.
They also talked about tracking changes in sea level using Bangladesh’s geosatellite.
According to them, the two nations’ cooperative efforts will be vital in combating climate change and boosting ecotourism.
