New Chief of Army Staff takes charge 

As of today, General Waker-Uz-Zaman assumed command as the new Chief of Army Staff.

According to a press release issued by ISPR this afternoon, he assumed leadership from his predecessor, General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed.

Subsequently, at Ganabhaban here, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina bestowed onto General Waker-Uz-Zaman, Chief of Army Staff, the new general rank badge.

The rank badge of General was bestowed onto the Army Chief by Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan and Chief of Naval Staff Admiral M Nazmul Hassan.

President Mohammed Shahbuddin received a courtesy call from the new Chief of Army Staff earlier in the evening at Bangabhaban.

In a June 11 gazette notice, the Ministry of Defense announced that Lieutenant General Waker-Uz-Zaman, the Chief of General Staff (CGS), had been promoted to the rank of general and designated as the Chief of Army Staff, effective June 23 afternoon, for a three-year term.
