According to authorities on Friday, two gunmen opened fire on a group of university students in what appeared to be a gang disagreement, leaving at least one person dead in a rare campus shooting in Panama.
Authorities reported that another person was hurt in the incident on the campus of a University of Panama location in Santiago de Veraguas, a city in the southwest.
In a video that was shared on social media, police deputy commissioner Hector Delgado stated that the motivation was believed to be a score-settling between criminal gangs.
There are rarely shootings at colleges and institutions in Panama, a 4.2 million-person nation that saw 544 homicides in 2023.
