From May 19 to 23, Dhaka hosted the first round of talks for the Japan-Bangladesh Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA).
According to a press release from the Japanese Embassy here today, Taketani Atsushi, the ambassador for Japan responsible for economic diplomacy, the deputy director-general of the ministry of foreign affairs’ economic affairs bureau, and representatives from other pertinent ministries attended the meeting.
The Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission Chairman, Dr. Ahmad Munirus Saleheen, was in attendance, as were officials from several ministries.
During this round of negotiations, the parties discussed a wide range of topics, including investment, electronic commerce, intellectual property, trade facilitation, rules of origin, trade in goods, and customs processes.
According to the Japanese Embassy in Dhaka, both parties have agreed to cooperate on arranging the dates of the second round of negotiations through diplomatic channels.
The negotiation began on May 19 and was attended by the Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh, Iwama Kiminori, State Minister for Commerce Ahasanul Islam Titu, Commerce Secretary Md. Selim Uddin, Chairman of the Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission, and Chief Negotiator on behalf of the Bangladeshi side, Ahmad Munirus Saleheen.
