Barcelona continued their quest for a quadruple on Saturday, defeating Real Sociedad 8-0 to win the women’s Copa de la Reina for a record-breaking 10th time.
In just five minutes, Ona Batlle gave the Spanish champions the lead in Zaragoza, and Salma Paralluelo scored the second shortly after.
After 19 minutes, Caroline Graham Hansen added a third goal from close range to round off an incredible season.
With a cool finish, the Norwegian winger swiftly added her second as ruthless Barcelona increased the pressure.
Complete-back Before halftime, Batlle scored her second goal, making it Barcelona’s fifth.
Aitana Bonmati, the winner of the Ballon d’Or, was substituted by two-time winner Alexia Putellas at halftime by Barca coach Jonatan Giraldez, but Real Sociedad’s suffering continued.
With a brace by Mariona Caldentey and another goal from Claudia Pina, Barcelona’s lead was maintained.
The Catalans’ eight goals in the Copa de la Reina finals exceeded their own record of six goals against Huelva in 2022.
“Today’s work is done, but the season’s is not — we still have a final to go,” said Caldentey.
With four games remaining, Giraldez’s team secured Liga F for the seventh time in a row. They also won the Spanish Super Cup in January.
The only goal left is to maybe win a third Champions League title when they play Lyon, a French powerhouse, in the championship game on May 25 in Bilbao.
After being disqualified from the Copa de la Reina for fielding an ineligible player, Barcelona failed to win the quadruple last season; Atletico Madrid won the championship instead.
Barcelona has now won the Spanish cup four times in the previous five years thanks to their victory over Real Sociedad.
With his final game being the Champions League final versus Lyon, Coach Giraldez will be leaving at the end of the season.
Out of a potential eleven trophies, the Copa de la Reina is his tenth trophy as captain.
