Singapore shows interest in investing in Bangladesh

During a meeting with the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), a high-level team from Singapore expressed a strong desire to invest in Bangladesh.

Dr. Azizizul Islam, Executive Member (Additional Secretary) of BIDA, presided over the meeting, which was held today in the BIDA conference room and focused on potential investments in Bangladesh’s tourism, jute, and associated industries.

According to a press release, Dr. Azizizul Islam stressed Bangladesh’s favorable investment climate during the discussion, emphasizing its safety and potential across a range of industries.

He emphasized the allure of Bangladesh’s tourism sector, spotlighting destinations like Cox’s Bazar and the Sundarbans, while also urging investment in jute, agriculture, and vegetable cultivation.

The Republic of Singapore’s non-resident high commissioner, Derek Loh, emphasized the close ties between Singapore and Bangladesh while pointing out the sizeable Bangladeshi workforce in Singapore.

He reiterated the desire to engage in the tourist, jute, agriculture, and vegetable industries in Bangladesh, pointing out the nation’s remarkable socioeconomic development and its standing as a major exporter.

Sheela Pillai, the charge d’affaires at the Singapore High Commission in Dhaka, Mitchel Lee, the deputy director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Benjamin Chue, the development partner for South Asia at Enterprise Singapore, Esther Lee, also from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Clarence Chong, the assistant development partner at Enterprise Singapore, were among those who accompanied Loh.

Additionally, Faruq Ahmed, Chairman of Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation, discussed investment opportunities in the jute sector.

Representatives from key Bangladeshi organizations such as BEZA, Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation, Tourism Board, BJMC, Akij Group, and Bay Group were also present, actively engaging in discussions to foster potential collaborations and investments.
