On Tuesday, student protests demanding that colleges cut their links to Israel after the Gaza War extended throughout western Europe, leading to altercations and scores of new arrests.
Inspired by the continuous protests occurring on US college campuses, students at several European colleges have begun taking over halls and other spaces, calling for an end to collaborations with Israeli organizations in response to Israel’s brutal attack on Gaza.
Several hundred demonstrators recommenced their protest around the University of Amsterdam campus, where they had been recorded by police the night before, beating them with baton charges and destroying their tents because they would not leave the property.
On Tuesday night, as the protests got back underway, protesters built barricades to block entrance points that were well guarded by police.
After police broke up the protests on Monday night, 169 people were detained, according to a statement from the police.
Except for two who are currently being held on suspicion of public disorder offenses, everyone had been released.
When a small group of counter-protesters with flares stormed the main protest on Monday, there was a brief explosion of violence.
According to local news agency ANP, about fifty protestors were also demonstrating on Tuesday outside the Utrecht University library and a few more at the Technical University of Delft.
