More than 280,000 voters are eligible to vote in the Maldives’ parliamentary election, which started on Sunday morning with the opening of polling places both domestically and abroad.
The South Asian nation has set up 602 polling places throughout the constituencies, with three located overseas in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The polls opened at 8 a.m. local time and will close at 5:30 p.m. inside the country. A total of 368 candidates are running for 93 seats in the parliament, with 42 candidates marking female representation.
