Oil jumps more than 3% on Middle East worries

Fears of an escalation of the Middle East conflict prompted unconfirmed claims of explosions in Iran, Syria, and Iraq, which sent oil prices plunging more than three percent in early Asian trade on Friday.

Brent increased 3.44 percent to $90.11 and West Texas Intermediate soared 3.66 percent to $85.76.

The reports follow Iran’s missile assault on Israel this weekend, which Israel’s army chief general, General Herzi Halevi, warned would result in retaliation.

Late on Saturday, Tehran launched around 300 assault drones and ballistic and cruise missiles, the majority of which were thwarted by air defenses.

The leaders of the nation declared that the strike was a just reaction to a fatal attack that they attributed to Tel Aviv on an Iranian diplomatic building in Damascus.
