Declaring today that the establishment of a diplomatic presence in Dhaka is a top priority for the Greek government is Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis.
During a bilateral discussion on the fringes of the 9th Our Ocean Conference, he provided the assurance to Dr. Hasan Mahmud, the foreign minister of Bangladesh, at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center in Athens.
The Greek foreign minister politely accepted his Bangladeshi counterpart’s invitation to visit Dhaka during the conference and said the trip would be a good way to launch the Greek diplomatic mission there.
The two ministers committed to establishing bilateral cooperation between Greece and Bangladesh in a number of areas, such as trade and investment, shipping, personnel and recruitment, and the development of infrastructure for alternative and renewable energy sources.
Hasan asked Gerapetritis to support Bangladeshi exports and encouraged Greek companies to buy high-tech, high-quality products from Bangladesh.
The Greek foreign minister emphasized the importance of developing an appropriate plan to support the expansion of bilateral trade and investment while also agreeing that bilateral trade must be increased where there are still enormous unrealized potentials.
Hasan urged for the seamless execution of the second section of the MOU and commended the Greek government for granting legal status to over 10,000 citizens of Bangladesh who were residing in Greece under the terms of the MOU on Migration and Mobility.
The foreign minister of Greece gave an assurance that his nation would hire a sizable number of Bangladeshi laborers in the near future for its construction, tourism, and hospitality industries as well as agricultural.
In addition, two ministers decided to create the legal foundation for productive collaboration between the two nations in the maritime industry.
Later, on the fringes of the meeting, Spanish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenges Maria Jesus Montero held a chat with Foreign Minister Dr. Hasan.
Cooperation in the areas of mutual interest, green energy, food and farm cooperation, water management, climate change, and environmental sectors was agreed upon by both parties.
