In order to guarantee “transparency” in an inquiry into an airstrike on Gaza that claimed the lives of seven humanitarian workers, including an Australian, Australia has announced that it will designate a special adviser to collaborate with Israel.
Australia, according to Foreign Minister Penny Wong, seeks comprehensive explanations for how US-based World Central Kitchen relief workers were murdered by Israeli forces on Monday.
Lalzawmi “Zomi” Frankcom, an Australian national of forty-three, was among the group, along with employees from Britain, Palestine, Poland, and the United States of Canada.
Wong told reporters Saturday that information about the strike provided so far by Israel was not sufficient and that the Australian government wants its own “suitably qualified person” to monitor the investigation.
“The government will appoint a special adviser who we have requested the Israelis work with so we can be advised about the appropriateness of the process,” Wong said.
“We want to have full confidence in the transparency and accountability of any investigation.”
In response to the deaths of the relief workers in Gaza, where hunger is predicted by humanitarian organizations, the Israeli military stated it has fired two officers.
However, the uncommon acknowledgement of misconduct by Israel did not stop demands for a separate investigation.
US President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had a heated phone conversation as a result of the humanitarian workers’ murders.
Wong stated in the “very near future” that information on the special adviser will be released.
1,170 persons, primarily civilians, were killed in an unprecedented offensive by Hamas terrorists on southern Israel on October 7, marking the start of the Gaza War, according to Israeli statistics.
Around 250 Israeli and foreign hostages were also taken by Palestinian terrorists; of them, roughly 130 are still in Gaza, including over 30 that the IDF claims are dead.
According to the health ministry in the Hamas-run enclave, Israel’s military operation against Hamas has killed at least 33,137 individuals in Gaza, the majority of them were women and children.
