Single Point Mooring pumps 40,000 MT of crude oil from Maheshkhali to ERL

Single Point Mooring (SPM), a floating oil line installed in the deep sea, securely and seamlessly transferred 40,000 MT of crude oil from Maheshkhali pumping station to Eastern Refinery Limited (ERL) today thanks to the government’s diligent efforts.

As per the press statement released by Mir Aslam Uddin, the Deputy Information Officer of the Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources Ministry, the much-awaited SPM project was put into action by moving crude oil from Moheskkhali to ERL.

In order to provide imported petroleum on Moheshkhali Island, the government previously established an SPM pipeline system, which will save at least Taka 800 crore annually.

“Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) initiated the SPM project to carry fuel through pipelines from mother vessels quickly, which would also save Taka 800 crore per annum,” the State Minister for Power Energy and Mineral Resources told reporters earlier.

He claimed that after the project is put into action, fuel oil theft and delivery times across the nation will be shortened.

“The Awami League government, led by Prime Minister Sheikh Haisna, has instructed the SPM to unload imported crude oil from deep sea in a more efficient and time-saving manner. The SPM will also ensure energy security in the country,” Nasrul Hamid added.
