Police said on Sunday that they had taken into custody a guy who had smashed his car into the gates of Buckingham Palace in London during the weekend.
At 2:30 PM on Saturday, the automobile “collided with the gates” of the royal residence, according to the Metropolitan Police.
According to a force spokesperson, the individual was brought to the hospital after being arrested by armed officers at the scene on suspicion of causing criminal damage. The representative said that no one was hurt and that investigations were still being conducted to determine the exact circumstances.
Security measures at Buckingham Palace, the British royal family’s official residence, are stringent, with the building in the heart of the capital constantly monitored by armed officers.
There have been several prior attempts at breaking into the palace. A 25-year-old guy was taken into custody in September of last year after attempting to break into the royal stables.
A guy was taken into custody in May when he threw shotgun cartridges onto the grounds of Buckingham Palace, just before King Charles III was crowned.
In the same month, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s residence, Downing Street, was guarded by gates that a 43-year-old man crashed his car into.
