Following hours-long failures that disrupted its platforms across multiple countries, Facebook’s parent company Meta declared that they had “resolved the issue”. The messaging service Whatsapp, which is owned by Meta, appears to be unaffected by the disruption.
On Tuesday, Meta Platforms announced that it was investigating the widespread Facebook, Instagram, and Threads disruptions that resulted in users being unable to access their accounts.
Global failures on numerous Meta platforms were reported by internet traffic monitor Down Detector. Around 500,000 people reported that Facebook was down, and 70,000 said that Instagram was down.
“We’re aware people are having trouble accessing our services. We are working on this now,” Meta spokesman Andy Stone said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
The White House also said it was monitoring the issue.
Later on Tuesday, Stone said the company “resolved the issue as quickly as possible for everyone who was impacted.” The Down Detector also indicated that reports of Facebook and Instagram being down were nearing normal levels.
