Film actress Pori Moni’s appeal for the prosecution brought under the Narcotics Control Act to be dismissed has been dismissed by the High Court with a comment.
The decision was rendered today, Thursday, by the High Court bench, which was made up of Justices Mustafa Zaman Islam and Md. Aminul Islam. Thus, the trial will go on, according to assistant attorney general Selim Azad.
On August4,2021, members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) invaded Pori Moni’s residence in the Banani neighborhood of the city. It was subsequently reported that drugs and an enormous quantity of pricey booze from foreign brands had been taken from that home. A case that was brought in relation to that incident led to Pori Moni’s detention. Later, she was released on bond.
On October 4 of the same year, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police filed a charge sheet with the court against three people, including Pori Moni. On January 5, 2022, the trial court issued an order to file charges against three people, among them Pori Moni.
Following the filing of the charges, Pori Moni filed an appeal with the High Court, requesting the matter to be dismissed. The High Court granted a three-month suspension of the Pori Moni case proceedings on March 1, 2022. The rule inquired as to why Pori Moni’s legal case, which was brought under the Narcotics Control Act, would not be dismissed.
Subsequently, the state filed an appeal, requesting the High Court judgment to be suspended. On March 8, 2022, the chamber court halted the High Court order following its hearing of the appeal. Furthermore, the state was instructed to consistently request permission to appeal. Furthermore, the state consistently requested permission to appeal.
On January 9 of last year, the Appellate Division issued an order in response to the hearing. The decree stipulated that a decision on the case’s annulment must be made within six months. Additionally, the trial court was instructed not to pursue the case during this period.
The trial court would hear the matter if the rule isn’t resolved within the allotted period, according to the Appellate Division. Following the resolution of the state’s request for permission to appeal the High Court ruling, the order was issued. A hearing about the High Court’s ruling was then held.
The High Court held a hearing to consider the decision about the case’s annulment after receiving the Appellate Division’s order. Following the hearing, on August 24, 2018, the High Court scheduled October 19, 2018, for the verdict date.
However, because of a bench reorganization, the verdict was not rendered on the scheduled date. Pori Moni’s appeal was listed on the High Court’s docket this Tuesday, with a verdict scheduled for February 22. And in line with that, the High Court rendered its decision today, Thursday.
