Bangladesh and Switzerland now have direct flight connectivity, which Switzerland is eager to establish.
In a press release, the Swiss ambassador to Bangladesh, Reto Renggli, stated his interest in the meeting that took place today at the ministry with Muhammad Faruk Khan, the minister of civil aviation and tourism in Bangladesh.
The minister replied by praising Switzerland’s involvement and stating that the “Air Service Agreement” will be inked in the next two months, following which Bangladesh will consider establishing direct air connectivity with Switzerland.
Faruk Khan said that the modern state of art 3rd Terminal of the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) will be operational for passengers from October this year and hoped that the existing air passenger and cargo capacity will double within a few years.
The minister stated, “We are working to utilize this opportunity to transform Bangladesh into one of the major aviation hubs,” pointing out that the country is situated along international aviation lines.
Regarding the tourist industry, Khan stated that in order to ensure planned and sustainable tourism development, the government has already created the “Tourism Master Plan,” which would be put into effect shortly.
The minister gave the ambassador the assurance that the Swiss businessmen would receive all the support they needed to invest in Bangladesh’s high-tourism areas.
Regarding his experience working with the “Bangladesh Air Service Agreement” team, Ambassador Renggli expressed his happiness.
Additionally, he promised that he would approach Swiss investors about making investments in Bangladesh’s tourism sector.
