UK leader Sunak pays more than $630,000 in taxes in 2023

The office of British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, a former banker, disclosed on Friday that he paid over 500,000 pounds ($630,000) in taxes in 2023.

According to Downing Street-released statistics, the 43-year-old, who has been prime minister since October 2022, had revenues of 2.2 million pounds in the 2022–2023 tax year, a 13% rise on the previous year.

While serving as prime minister and a member of parliament, he made about 140,000 pounds. Dividends on shares, interest, and capital gains totaled another 2.1 million pounds.

According to the numbers, Sunak’s total tax payment was 23%, with capital gains subject to a lower tax rate than work income.

The capital gains come mainly from an investment fund based in the United States.

Sunak, is married to Akshata Murty, daughter of N.R. Narayana Murthy, founder of the Indian tech giant Infosys.

Due to their personal wealth, the pair has become embroiled in controversy, and opponents have used this to paint the prime minister as disconnected from the issues facing regular Britons.

Murty stated she would disclose all income received worldwide after it was made public by the media that she had utilized a non-domiciled status to pay less tax on money generated outside of the United Kingdom.

A parliamentary investigation revealed that Sunak had concealed his wife’s ownership stake in a child care firm, although it did not bring any consequences.
