Govt. to formulate ad policy for online media: Mohammad Ali Arafat

Today, Mohammad Ali Arafat, the State Minister for Information and Broadcasting, said that an online media advertisement strategy will be developed.

“There is a necessity of a policy to determine government advertisement rates for online newspapers and news portals. Necessary steps will be taken to formulate a policy in this regard,” he said.

According to an official announcement, the state minister made these remarks during a viewpoints exchange meeting with representatives of the Department of Films and Publications (DFP) this afternoon in the Tatya Bhaban conference room.

In attendance were officials from the Bangladesh Film Censor Board Vice-Chairman Khaleda Begum, the Mass Communication Department DG Md Nizamul Kabir, the DFP Director General (DG) SM Golam Kibria, and other departments.

Noting that press and opinion freedoms had increased during the Awami League (AL) administration, Arafat stated that the current government is resolute in its commitment to upholding the people’s fundamental rights.

The state minister emphasized on a comparative study and publications on progress of freedom of thoughts and expression during the tenure of the present government with the scenario during the regimes led by the government of other political parties and military rulers.

Arafat instructed authorities to work diligently to use DFP publications to more effectively showcase the nation’s development initiatives to both domestic and foreign audiences.

As people’s mindsets and technology have advanced, Arafat remarked, the DFP must add dimension to its operations in order to meet the difficulties.

The Printing Presses and Publications (Declaration and Registration) Act, 1973 will be reformed, he stated, if necessary.

The state minister toured the DFP’s exhibition and sales center, museum, and library prior to attending the meeting.
