Modi phones PM Hasina, congratulate her on election victory

India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, congratulated Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on leading the Awami League to victory in the country’s 12th legislative election.

One day after the election, on Monday, he called the prime minister.

Along with his congratulations, Prime Minister Hasina received a letter from Modi expressing his confidence that the close and historic relations between Bangladesh and India will only grow stronger in every aspect of their unbreakable alliance as she gets ready to lead her nation for a fourth term in office.

He affirmed that as a close friend and trusted development partner of Bangladesh, India will continue to support Bangladesh’s aspirations and growth.

In the letter, Prime Minister Modi also conveyed his best wishes to the people of Bangladesh for their continued progress, peace and prosperity.

Following the phone call, Prime Minister Modi in X, formally on Twitter, wrote: “I spoke with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and congratulated her on winning the Parliamentary elections for a historic fourth straight term.

“I also congratulate the people of Bangladesh for the successful conduct of elections. We are committed to further strengthen our enduring and people-centric partnership with Bangladesh.”
