A protest rally with the theme “Stop violence against wildlife” held in Nilphamari

“It is impossible to sustain human civilization if wildlife is not saved,” Asaduzzaman Noor, former Minister of Culture and former Member of Parliament, said.

Asaduzzaman Noor, former Minister of Culture and Member of Parliament for Nilphamari Sadar 2 Constituency, spoke as the chief guest at the rally organized by Save the Nature of Bangladesh as part of the “Protest Yatra” program under the slogan “Stop Violence Against Wildlife” at Nilphamari Udayan Chattar.

The organizers request that the concerned government departments be more careful in protecting the rights of animals, including dogs and cats, in our surroundings.

There is a lack of public awareness regarding the long presence of wildlife, including leopards, in the Nilphamari border area, which should be taken up by the concerned government department.

Among the speakers at the gathering was Zaman Ali, Coordinator of Save the Nature of Bangladesh, Nilphamari District Branch. Pran Prakriti researcher and chairman of Save the Nature of Bangladesh, A.N.M. Moazzem Hossain Hossain Sohail, Wild Watch Bangladesh Coordinator Shakil Arif, Safe Bangladesh Director Khandkar Shahinur Rahman, and others.

Public awareness campaigns and initiatives promoting human connection were conducted as part of the program in a number of locations, such as Kishoreganj Upazila’s Water Fountain Square and Nilphamari Sadar’s Chowrangi Square.

The leaders made the following demands to the government, local people’s representatives, and the forest department as part of the protest:

  1. In the upcoming national elections, the candidates must pledge to protect wildlife and stop killing wildlife.
  2. The forest department should be held accountable for the reasons for its failure in wildlife and wildlife violence.
  3. Expanding education and raising awareness about wildlife protection in schools and colleges with local residents.
  4. A massive awareness campaign should be conducted in the northern districts where wildlife killing is ongoing, especially in the area where a cheetah was brutally killed a few days ago.
  5. The Wildlife Conservation and Safety Act 2012 has to be implemented by the concerned department for violent behavior towards wildlife by individuals or groups.
