According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, Israeli troops murdered five Palestinians in a refugee camp in the occupied West Bank on Sunday morning while conducting airstrikes against the camp.
The news of the deaths of two males, ages 19 and 21, in a hospital raised the number of fatalities from the raid on the Nur Shams camp in the West Bank city of Tulkarem to five, according to the ministry.
Witnesses said that the Israeli attack in the camp started throughout the night.
The director of the Thabet Thabet hospital, Amin Khader, told AFP that “five people arrived at the hospital with wounds, including one to the head”.
An Israeli military spokesperson said air strikes had targeted “terrorist groups who opened fire and threw explosives, putting IDF (army) forces in danger”.
“At least four terrorists were killed and others were injured” during the raid, the spokesperson said, adding that four others were arrested.
“During searches, combatants found a bomb in a clinic where wanted people were hiding,” the spokesperson added.
Violence in the West Bank has spiked since the start of Israel’s war with Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
Since the conflict began on October 7, more than 290 Palestinians have died at the hands of Israeli soldiers or settlers in the West Bank, according to health officials.
The West Bank has been under Israeli occupation since the 1967 Arab-Israeli War. Particularly in recent months, there have been numerous raids in Jenin that have claimed the lives of numerous people.
The latest numbers from the Israeli government indicate that around 1,140 persons were killed in Hamas’s October 7 strikes on Israel, which set off the Gaza Strip conflict.
The Hamas administration in Gaza claims that 18,800 Palestinians have died as a result of Israel’s retaliatory offensive, the majority of them were women and children.
