In Moscow’s most recent aerial assault, Ukraine stated on Friday that Russian forces had launched two missiles and over two dozen attack drones with Iranian designs on the country’s east and south.
According to Kyiv officials, Russian forces have been preparing drones and missiles for a campaign of coordinated strikes against Ukraine’s beleaguered electricity infrastructure during the winter.
“In total, the enemy used two X-59 missiles and 25 Shahed-136/131 attack drones,” the air force said, claiming to have downed 18 of the drones and one missile over southern regions.
The winter of last year saw prolonged spells of darkness and cold for millions of people due to Russian strikes on Ukraine’s electricity infrastructure.
Since then, Kiev has strengthened its air defense systems with Western weapons, but it has acknowledged that more weapons are required to secure sensitive areas.
