Star batsman Virat Kohli made an impression with the ball on Sunday in the World Cup match against the Netherlands in Bengaluru, taking his first wicket in nine years in one-day international cricket.
India captain Rohit Sharma gave the ball to teammate Virat Kohli, who dismissed opposing captain Scott Edwards in his second over when he was caught behind by a ball that was sliding down the leg side, with the Dutch dragging themselves along in their pursuit of 411 to win.
With his moderate medium-pace, it was only Kohli’s fifth career ODI wicket and his first since Wellington, 2014, when he removed New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum.
He last scored in a competitive international match in the 2016 Twentytwenty T20 World Cup against the West Indies.
Earlier in this World Cup, Kohli took a quick wicket after Bangladeshi all-rounder Hardik Pandya hobbled out in the middle of an over.
Kohli scored 51 in India’s 410–4 victory earlier on Sunday, matching Sachin Tendulkar’s all-time record of 49 ODI hundreds set last week.
