On Saturday, the Bangladesh cricket team will begin its ICC World Cup campaign against Afghanistan, who have recently proven to be a difficult foe for the Tigers.
At the scenic Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala, the game will begin.
Each team in this 10-team World Cup will compete in a total of nine games during the group stage. Bangladesh’s opening two games are scheduled to take place in Dharamsala on October 10 against the defending world champions England and Afghanistan, respectively.
Bangladesh’s next match against Afghanistan will be their first ODI encounter in India in 17 years; their most recent ODI match in India was in 2006.
Bangladesh played two warm-up games against Sri Lanka and England before the main event. While they won the first match, they lost to England in the second, which was played in Guwahati.
Bangladesh’s captain Shakib Al Hasan missed the warm-up games because of a minor injury he sustained playing football during practice. He has been cleared to fight in Afghanistan, though.
Bangladesh hosted an ODI series at home against the current World Cup runners-up, New Zealand, prior to the World Cup. Bangladesh lost the series 2-0, with one match being postponed due to severe rain.
The Bangladesh captain expressed confidence, emphasising the significance of the upcoming World Cup matches.
The squad comprises a blend of seasoned campaigners and young talents. Shakib, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah Riyad, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, and Litton Das form the backbone of the Bangladesh team. The side also features promising talents in Najmul Hossain Shanto, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, and Tanzim Hasan Sakib, along with Nasum Ahmed and Mahedi Hasan.
Bangladesh also boasts Mehidy Hasan Miraz, a talented all-rounder who has excelled in recent years and possesses the potential to shine in this World Cup being held in India.
