Goal-shy On Monday, Chelsea discovered their cutting edge, scoring twice in 82 seconds to defeat Fulham 2-0 and lift their spirits. Mykhailo Mudryk also scored his first goal for the team.
Only two points and five goals separated Mauricio Pochettino’s injury-riddled club from the relegation zone when they traveled to the home of their near neighbors.
Early missed opportunities suggested recurring shortcomings, but in the 18th minute, Ukrainian winger Mudryk scored his first goal for Chelsea and Armando Broja quickly increased the advantage.
The victory moves Chelsea up to mid-table and relieves pressure on struggling new boss Pochettino, whose squad had gone three games without scoring in the Premier League.
The former manager of Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain had asked for ruthlessness in front of goal, and his team’s quick-fire first-half double calmed his fears. “It’s important for us to build our confidence and trust in ourselves,” Pochettino told Sky Sports.
“The performance was very good, I’m so happy for the players and in the end we got what we deserved.”
