Over 300 tourists stranded on St Martin’s Island

The local government has banned all sorts of watercraft, including tourist ships, speed boats, and service trawlers, from traveling between Teknaf and Saint Martin’s Island, leaving over 300 people stranded there.

Low pressure in the Bay of Bengal has led to the declaration of local warning signal number 3.

This was confirmed to Prothom Alo by Mohammad Adnan Chowdhury, the Teknaf Upazila Nirbahi Officer.

According to him, Cox’s Bazar has been experiencing bad weather since yesterday afternoon as a result of low pressure in the Bay that is being influenced by monsoon winds.

Due to the choppy sea, water craft movements along the Teknaf-Saint Martin route have been dangerous.

Up till further notice, all movements of watercraft of all kinds will be halted, according to the meteorological agency.

Local public officials and administrations have been ordered to take action, though, to ensure that stranded tourists don’t run into any problems. The tourists that are trapped will be returned by action.
