The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) has certified two more factories, both of which received Gold ratings, bringing the nation’s total number of LEED factories to 202.
Among these, 73 received the coveted Platinum rating, 115 Gold, and 10 Silver. Bangladesh has the most factories with LEED certification in 2022. in only one calendar year, according to BGMEA president Faruque Hassan.
According to him, 15 of the 30 factories expected to receive LEED certification in 2022 were Platinum and Gold certified. In August 2023, another 20 factories will have received this prestigious certification, with 13 receiving the prestigious Platinum grade and seven receiving the Gold rating.
Faruque claimed that last month, the USGBC recognized 200 LEED factories in the RMG sector of Bangladesh, and that the nation also had the distinction of having 13 of the top 15 LEED Green Factories in the world.
“Among these, one stands out as the highest-rated LEED Green Factory globally. 500 more factories are in the pipeline to get the certification as its happening gradually,” he said.
The president of the BGMEA stated that the RMG sector in Bangladesh has made unremitting efforts with commitment and determination to become sustainable in every way, particularly in the areas of workplace safety, employee wellbeing, and environmental concerns.
“The unparalleled green transformation is a testament of our visionary entrepreneurship showing resilience, flexibility, mindset toward positive changes and capability to adapt,” he added.
He claimed that in addition to highlighting the commitment, this worldwide recognition also illustrates the potential of the nation to become a pioneer in environmentally friendly manufacturing techniques.
