Bangladesh beat India in Asia Cup after 11 years

After an 11-year hiatus, Bangladesh defeated India by a mere six runs in the Asia Cup, claiming a crucial victory. Since their home match against India in 2012, they haven’t defeated India in the Asia Cup.

Shubman Gill scored a century while attempting to reach the 266-run target, but his efforts were ineffective because the Bangladeshi bowlers successfully held off the challenge.

Both teams were equally strong despite the absence of several of their best players. In this hotly contested game, Bangladesh prevailed.

Bangladesh has so far had a dismal experience with the Asia Cup. However, their final triumph in the last game gave their cause a little extra notoriety.

Bangladesh had to defend 12 runs in the match’s critical last over. Tanzim Hasan, a rookie pacer, gave a standout effort, allowing no runs in the first three deliveries.

On the fourth delivery, Mohammad Shami did, however, manage to hit a critical four. When Shami and Prasidh Krishna attempted a high-risk double on the fifth ball, which ultimately led to an unnecessary run-out and gave Bangladesh the victory, the tension increased.

“The first wicket of Rohit bhai was a dream wicket,” Tanzim Hasan said after the match, who ended up taking two wickets for 32 runs. “I just concentrate on line and length. I mentally prepared myself for a long spell. I’m feeling very good.”

Bangladesh had difficult circumstances after being given the opportunity to bat first, but they still managed to score 265 runs. Shakib Al Hasan was the star performer, scoring 80 runs off 85 balls with finesse.

The Tigers were able to surpass the 260-run mark thanks in large part to the crucial contribution of 44 runs from eighth-placed Nasum Ahmed. Towhid Hridoy secured a half-century and had a great impact as well. However, Litton Das’ prolonged drop in performance worried the squad.

The top bowler for India was Shardul Thakur, who claimed three wickets, while Shami claimed two.

In Reply, India lost their captain Rohit Sharma quickly to Tanzim. Debutante Tilak Varma and Ishan Kishan were also sent back quickly. But Subhman was firm at the other end of the wicket to guide the team to chase the total. Axar Patel scored 42 at the late order, but that was not enough to seal the match for India.

In the 49th over, Mustafizur Rahman bagged the wickets of Shardul Thakur and Axar Patel, making the job of Tanzim in the last over easier. Mustafizur ended up taking three wickets in crucial moments.

“I should give credit to Sakib (Tanzim),” Bangladesh captain Shakib said. “I think we have got a very good team (for the World Cup. A lot of injuries and players coming in and going out didn’t help during this Asia Cup.”
