The uncut version of OMG 2 will debut on OTT, according to director Amit Rai, after CBFC approved the film with 27 cuts and an A certificate.
At the moment, OMG 2 is making money at the box office. In a recent interview with PTI, director Amit Rai expressed his “heartbreak” at the A certificate the movie obtained and shared that it would remain in its entirety on OTT.
In an interview with news agency PTI, Amit said, “We were heartbroken because we made the film for everyone to watch, now that cannot happen. We begged them to give us a U/A certificate (children below 12 years of age can watch a film under parental guidance) but they didn’t. We tried to convince them till the very end… But then they walked some distance, we walked some distance. The film has been released with modifications…”
When asked if the OTT release of OMG 2 will be released without any cuts, Amit added, “We are happy people have loved the film. The intent of the film was pure. Nobody wanted to titillate the audience, hence they liked it. We have dealt with it (the story) in a way that doesn’t sound vulgar. We talk about the reality, but in a sweet and humorous way.”
OMG 2 ran into issues with the CBFC board earlier this month. It was reported that the film was examined in light of complaints made against the Prabhas-starring movie Adipurush, which came out in June of this year. The movie was finally given an A certificate with 27 cuts after weeks of rumors. According to reports, the filmmakers also requested a UA certificate because their movie deals with sex education and intends to inform teenagers. To get the movie into theaters, they ultimately had to settle for an A certificate.
Along with Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 and Rajinikanth’s Jailer, which both enjoyed strong opening weekends at the box office, OMG 2 was released. With Akshay Kumar, Yami Gautam, and Pankaj Tripathi in the lead roles, the movie explores the state of sex education in Indian schools. In the critically acclaimed movie that debuted, Akshay plays a representative of Lord Shiva.
