Following his stints with the Canada Global T20 event and Lankan Premier League (LPL), Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan returned to Dhaka yesterday. However, the talented all-rounder has not yet joined the ongoing practice session for the upcoming Asia Cup.
Another beginning Shakib and Liton Das, who both participated in the LPL, joined the training session today at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
Shakib, on the other hand, had a busy day today because he participated in promotional events in Barishal before flying back to Dhaka to film an advertisement.
He will reportedly show up for practice tomorrow (Wednesday). Shakib performed admirably in the Canada Global T20 event, but given his stature, he was unable to excel in the LPL. The premier all-rounder for Galle Titans participated in 10 games, took 10 wickets, and scored 138 runs.
Meanwhile, Liton, Bangladesh’s best batter over the previous two years, had yet another terrible campaign. In his first LPL appearance for Galle Titans, he scored just 34 runs in three games after failing to improve upon his performance in Canada Global T20.
Prior to the Asia Cup, he must regain his form because, in Tamim Iqbal’s absence, he will be expected to start the batting and lead the team. Tanzid Hasan Tamim, who has yet to make his debut, could start alongside Liton at the Asia Cup.
Bangladesh will continue its practice session through August 25. Bangladesh, which been placed in Group B, will begin the Asia Cup by playing co-host Sri Lanka on August 31 in Pallekele before taking on Afghanistan on September 3 in Lahore.
