The Ukrainian air force reported on Saturday that during an overnight strike, Ukrainian defenses shot down 15 Russian drones.
It stated that 17 Shahed drones of Iranian manufacture were utilized in the aerial assault but did not say what happened to the other two.
Russian soldiers “attacked with ‘Shahed-136/131’ attack UAVs from the north. From the Kursk region, 17 attack drones were launched, according to a Telegram post by the Ukrainian military.
It added that air defences were activated in “northern and central, as well as in the western regions”.
“15 enemy drones were destroyed by the forces and means of the Air Force in cooperation with the air defence systems of other components of the Defence Forces of Ukraine.”
As Ukraine launches a counteroffensive to retake land held by Russia, both sides in the fight, which began in February 2022, have recently reported frequent drone invasions by air and sea.
Since the cancellation of a pact that had permitted the secure transfer of grain through the shipping center, Moscow has increased attacks on Ukraine’s port facilities in the Black Sea and the Danube.
Russian soldiers reportedly destroyed Ukrainian drones that were aiming for Moscow and the Black Sea Fleet on Friday.
The region’s Russian-installed governor reported that Ukrainian forces crossed into the Russian-occupied east bank of Kherson and set positions there.
