Due to disagreements among club members, the BRICS group will not be enlarged during the Johannesburg meeting.
The meeting is slated to take place from August 22 to 24.
As a result, Bangladesh and other interested nations like Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa must wait to join the group.
Last year, the alliance was eager to grow the five-country club. Regarding this, at least 23 nations, including Bangladesh, have expressed a desire to join the BRICS.
India and Brazil do not want the conference to become one that is hostile to the West, though.
The five-nation BRICS economic partnership set out on its journey in 2006. Brazil and India have no interest.
China had a keen interest in seeing BRICS grow. It is known that China aims to use BRICS as a forum to criticize the West.
Although China and Russia agreed to expand BRICS, India and Brazil did not, according to diplomatic sources.
India, however, stated that before adding additional members, the core policy for the enlargement of BRICS must be finalized.
Despite keeping its support for India and Brazil a secret, South Africa, the BRICS group’s host country, has also sided with them.
The BRICS are not expanding its activities since they are based on unity.
