An offer from Saudi Arabia is reportedly on the table, and Neymar is “probably leaving” Paris Saint-Germain, a source close to the negotiations told AFP on Sunday.
The Brazilian international moved from Barcelona to the French champions in 2017 for a record 220 million euros ($241m).
The source did note that the 31-year-old forward “no longer figures in the club or manager’s plans” because he was absent from PSG’s season-opening game on Saturday.
The Brazilian striker missed the goalless draw with Lorient due to a “viral syndrome,” according to the official explanation.
According to the insider, Neymar was in negotiations with a Saudi Pro League team that was flush with cash and “will then have to reach an agreement with PSG.”
According to the French sports newspaper L’Equipe, Al-Hilal is the team that has made a bid for the 31-year-old.
Kylian Mbappe of PSG was the target of an offer from Al-Hilal last month worth 300 million euros ($328 million), but the striker reportedly declined to meet with club representatives.
After having surgery on his right ankle in early March, Neymar joined PSG in Asia for their preseason trip.
Qatari-backed With Lionel Messi leaving PSG and French superstar Mbappe watching Saturday’s match from the sidelines after being sidelined for several weeks due to an ongoing contract dispute, the club is in a state of turmoil.
The game at Parc des Princes was notable for Neymar’s noticeable absence.
Injuries have plagued him throughout his career at PSG.
Although he assisted the team in reaching the 2020 Champions League final, he frequently missed crucial matches.
If Neymar decides to go to Saudi Arabia, he will join an expanding group of elite athletes who have been seduced by the oil-rich nation ever since Cristiano Ronaldo switched to Al-Nassr in January.
