The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) today agreed in principle two independent proposals for acquiring LNG from two different businesses for 15 years beginning in 2026 to meet the country’s energy demand.
The approvals came from the CCEA’s 17th meeting this year, which was held digitally and presided over by Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal.
Md Amin Ul Ahsan, Cabinet Division assistant secretary, told reporters following the meeting that the day’s CCEA meeting approved four suggestions.
He stated that, based on two independent bids from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, Petrobangla would purchase 1 to 1.5 MTPA LNG from Excelerate Energy Bangladesh Ltd in Moheshkhali under a 15-year long-term agreement beginning in 2026.
Aminul stated that Petrobangla would also purchase 1.5 MTPA LNG from Summit Oil and Shipping Company Ltd over a 15-year period commencing in 2026.
He stated that, according to another proposal put forth by the Power Division, the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) would procure services related to affected gas turbine compressor repair from the main manufacturing company General Electric (Switzerland) GmbH via the Direct Procurement Method (DPM) for the Ghorashal 3rd Unit Repowered Combined Cycle Power Plant.
Furthermore, the cabinet division additional secretary stated that the day’s CCEA meeting approved in principle a proposal from the Ministry of Housing and Public Works for implementing the ‘Construction, Operations, and Maintenance of Water Treatment Plant at Purbachal New Town’ under the Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) method.
RAJUK will oversee the construction of a sustainable and environmentally friendly sewerage system for the Purbachal New Town project.
