BJP eager to work with AL for political stability in the region

J.P Nadda, President of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), said today that his party (BJP) is keen to work with the Bangladesh Awami League (AL) in the future for the benefit of political stability and combating terrorism in the area, as it has in the past.

“BJP has a warm relation with the Awami League since long and we want to carry forward our relations by strengthening party level contacts in the days to come,” he said while the visiting five-member AL delegation held a meeting with him at his residence here today.

Dr. Md. Abdur Razzaque, AL Presidium Member and Agriculture Minister, headed the group, which included AL Joint-General Secretary and Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr. Hassan Mahmud, its Organising Secretary Sujit Roy Nandi, Aroma Dutta, MP, and Professor Marina Jahan, MP.

According to meeting sources, they discussed a variety of subjects, including regional political stability, Bangladesh’s economic development, combating militancy, and India-Bangladesh relations.

Nadda stated that India has had a warm relationship with Bangladesh since the country’s foundation in 1971, during the War of Independence. In 1971, the then-young legislator and subsequently Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Bajpyee introduced a motion in Indian parliament in support of Bangladesh, he said.

On the Bangladesh-India relationship, he stated that it hit a new high under the tenures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina.

In this regard, he stated that the long-standing land boundary and maritime disputes between Bangladesh and India were resolved during the tenures of the two prime ministers.

He praised Bangladesh’s current economic progress, saying the country has achieved significant achievement in the region’s socioeconomic sectors, serving as an example for other countries.

On cross-border terrorism, delegation members informed Nadda that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has “Zero Tolerance” for terrorism, stating that her administration will not allow terrorists to exploit even an inch of its soil for terrorism.

As the meeting over, delegation member and Information and Broadcasting
Minister Hasan Mahmud told BSS that the meeting, which was lasted for over one and half hours, was held in a “very cordial atmosphere”.

“We discussed so many issues with the BJP President,” he said, adding that Bangladesh AL and BJP have been enjoying a very good relation and the both countries are solving so many outstanding issues in party and even in government levels through discussion in the past.

The information minister hoped that the relations will continue further in the days to come.

Earlier, the Bangladesh delegation held a formal meeting with the BJP at its headquarters here.
