Nuclear fuel for Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant arrives in September

ROSATOM Director General (DG) Alexey Likhachev said today during a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official house Ganabhaban that nuclear fuel for the Rooppur nuclear power station (RNPP) will arrive in the nation in September.

“The work of RNPP has progressed overcoming hundreds of obstacles and nuclear fuel for this plant will reach Bangladesh in September,” PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim quoted Likhachev as telling the premier at their meeting.

Karim told reporters after the meeting that the ROSATOM DG informed the premier of the overall status of the RNPP and discussed the project.

They also discussed the RNPP’s inaugural ceremony.

The prime minister congratulated everyone involved for continuing the work of the RNPP despite the Covid-19 outbreak and the worldwide crisis.

She also thanked Russia for offering technological and financial aid.

Sheikh Hasina expressed confidence that Russia’s collaboration will continue in the future, recalling Russia’s support and help during the Great War of Liberation and in the reconstruction of Bangladesh following the war.

Architect Yeafesh Osman, Ambassador-at-large Mohammad Ziauddin, PM’s Principal Secretary M. Tofazzel Hossain Miah, Senior Secretary of Science and Technology Ministry Ziaul Hasan, PM’s Special Assistant Dr. Shaheed Hossain, and Bangladesh Ambassador to Russia Kamrul Ahsan were among those present.
