Firefighting plane crashes in Greece

A fire department spokeswoman told AFP that a firefighting plane crashed in Greece on Tuesday while on a trip to the island of Evia.

“A Greek Canadair plane with at least two people on board crashed near
Platanisto,” a village in Evia, spokesman Yannis Artopios said.

Greek wildfires have been raging under oppressive heat, forcing large-scale evacuations from a number of popular tourist destinations, including the islands of Corfu and Rhodes.
