Greta Thunberg convicted of disobeying Sweden police, handed fine

Greta Thunberg, a Swedish climate activist, was fined after being found guilty of disobeying police orders at a rally last month in the city of Malmo, according to an AFP photographer who was present.

Thunberg acknowledged before the Malmo district court that she had disregarded police requests to leave the area, but she refuted accusations of illegal behavior by pointing to the need resulting from the “climate crisis.”

However, the judge determined that she was still responsible and punished her 1,500 kronor ($144) in addition to a further 1,000 kronor payment to the Swedish fund for crime victims.
