Plane crashes into hangar in Poland, killing five

On Monday, a tiny plane near Warsaw collided with a hangar, killing five people, according to officials.

Three individuals were reportedly on board the aircraft when it crashed into the corrugated iron hangar, where 13 people were seeking refuge from the storm.

“Five people died and eight others were injured, two of them seriously,” said Warsaw police spokesman Sylwester Marczak, adding that the pilot was among the dead.

The aircraft came down at a small airport known for parachute jump training in the village of Chrcynno, which is located 29 miles (47 kilometers) outside of Warsaw.

The Cessna airplane was modified to accommodate parachutists.

The local fire department shared a picture of the plane’s tail poking out of the hangar on Facebook.

Police were informed just after 1730 GMT, according to Marczak, and an inquiry will be opened.
